F.X. Pichler Presents Pinot Noir
A new chapter from the Wachau
Professionals only
With the planting of Pinot Noir in the Wachau Rieden, a new chapter begins for F.X. Pichler, and for the Austrian wine world a small sensation. Following the premiere at VieVinum, Lucas Pichler now presents the first vintages of his red wine project for the first time within Weinberg Arlberg.
F.X. Pichler Presents Pinot Noir
When one of the most iconic white wine estates in Austria suddenly presents Pinot Noir, attention is unavoidable. That, of all houses, F.X. Pichler, internationally known for decades for great Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners from the Wachau, vinifies a red wine for the first time, ranks without doubt among the most compelling developments of the Austrian wine world in recent years.
For generations, Weingut F.X. Pichler has stood for the highest precision, uncompromising quality, and a clear signature. At the same time, the family has always been willing to question the established and consider new paths. From this stance arose the idea of planting Pinot Noir in selected Wachau Rieden or grafting over existing vines.
At VieVinum 2026, the first three vintages of this exceptional project were presented for the first time to a small circle of international critics, companions, and customers, a historic moment for the estate and a real surprise for the Austrian wine scene.
At Weinberg Arlberg, Lucas Pichler now gives rare insight into this new chapter of the house. In a personal masterclass, he presents the first Pinot Noir vintages, speaks on the background of the project, the challenges of Pinot Noir in the Wachau, and the question of how origin, climate, and style express themselves in these wines.
A rare opportunity to experience a piece of Austrian wine history almost from its beginning.
Lucas F. Pichler runs Weingut F.X. Pichler in Dürnstein in the Wachau together with his wife Johanna, representing the seventh generation of the family. He joined the estate in 1996, took over vinification in 1999, and has served as managing director, winegrower, and oenologist since the official handover in 2019. F.X. Pichler has long been one of the defining names of the Wachau and is especially known for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from great sites such as Kellerberg, Loibenberg, and Steinertal. At the heart of Lucas Pichler’s work are origin, vintage, microclimate, and a style he describes as seamless and distinctive.
