Daniel Niepoort
Daniel van der Niepoort is the son of Dirk van der Niepoort and, together with his siblings Marco and Anna, represents the sixth generation of the Niepoort family business, founded in 1842. Having grown up surrounded by wine, origin, and international exchange, he consciously chose practical winemaking training in Switzerland. He then gained experience in several wine regions, including Burgundy, the Jura, South Africa, Argentina, Spain, Italy, and Ausatralia. On the Mosel, he founded the FIO project before returning full-time to Niepoort in 2020. Today, he works alongside his father in the Douro and, as Head Winemaker, focuses on wines that reflect old vineyards, Portugal’s diversity, sustainability, and a clear sense of place.
