Prof Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz

Viticulture Scientist & University President

Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz studied viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, followed by plant biology and horticulture at the University of California, Davis. He received his doctorate from the University of Giessen in 1989 and later completed research stays at UC Davis and the École Nationale Supérieure Agronomique in Montpellier. Since 1995, he has been Professor of Viticulture in Geisenheim, where he first headed the viticulture department and later the Geisenheim Research Institute. Since 2013, Schultz has been the founding President of Hochschule Geisenheim University. As a scientist and university leader, he has helped shape international viticulture research, the strategic development of the university, and numerous scientific partnerships and advisory boards.
