Does Riesling Have a Problem
incl. lunch from 12:30 p.m.
What challenges does climate change pose for the world’s great Riesling regions? Do shifts in the growing season produce new flavour profiles? Amanda Wassmer-Bulgin discusses with producers, trade, science, and critics where the variety stands in the future.
Riesling is regarded as one of the most precise grape varieties in the world, yet does this reputation suffice to reach new consumers? The panel discusses climate change, changing flavour profiles, market movements, gastronomy, and the role of aged Rieslings.
Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz brings the scientific perspective, Stephan Reinhardt frames style and sensory aspects, and Ann Burgaz reports from the trade. Philipp Wittmann and Emmerich H. Knoll speak from the perspective of major Riesling regions; a voice from Alsace is still to be confirmed. The discussion is moderated by Amanda Wassmer-Bulgin.
