Sascha Speicher presents developments and favourite wines
incl. lunch from 12:30 p.m.
Sparkling wine has been booming for more than a decade and the category continues to broaden. Sascha Speicher analyses developments, places styles in context, and shows selected examples of classical bottle fermentation.
Hardly any other category has gained as much attention in recent years as sparkling wine. Grower Sekt, Crémants, Champagne, Franciacorta, and other traditional-method sparkling wines now shape many wine lists. But will the trend continue, and which styles will prevail?
Sascha Speicher, editor-in-chief of Meiningers Sommelier and a recognised specialist in Champagne and sparkling wine, combines market observation with tasting in this session. He shows developments, provides context, and presents selected sparkling wines that stand for quality, independence, and gastronomic relevance. A tasting about bubbles, but above all about precision, craftsmanship, and the future.
Sascha Speicher is a wine journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Meiningers Sommelier, Meininger Verlag’s trade magazine for sommeliers and the restaurant sector. He has worked in wine journalism since 1998 and is regarded as one of the established voices in the German-speaking wine industry. His main areas of expertise include Champagne, France, Austria, and the international sommelier scene. He has also initiated formats such as the Sommelier Summit, Meininger’s Finest 100, 100 Prozent Champagne, and Sparkling Twenties, through which he has helped shape the German-speaking sommelier and sparkling wine scene.
