Vinea Wachau: A Journey through its Finest Sites

Details

Tasting wine is always an intellectual adventure: matching sensory impressions to specific terroirs, recognizing similarities and differences, and discovering nuances that reveal clues about elevation, geology, and vineyard exposure.

Such an experience is only possible with wines grown in exceptional sites and crafted in a way that preserves their authentic sense of origin.

This is precisely what Vinea Wachau, the regional winegrowers’ association of the Wachau, stands for. Since 1983, its member wineries have committed themselves to selective hand harvesting, natural winemaking practices, and the avoidance of small oak barrels. Meticulous craftsmanship and strict origin control ensure an unadulterated expression of both vintage and terroir.

For this tasting, Vinea Wachau presents wines from all villages and vineyard sites across both sides of the Danube—without initially revealing their identities. This allows guests to analyse each wine free from preconceptions while exploring the interplay between vineyard character and winemaker style.

Participants are encouraged to share observations, make predictions, and engage in lively discussions about origin versus winemaking influence.

The digital vineyard map of Vinea Wachau will accompany the tasting, allowing guests to follow this unique journey through the vineyard sites of one of the world’s most breathtaking wine regions.
