Moric: 2023 Vintage Presentation

For 25 years, Roland Velich has pursued a clear idea: to think of Blaufränkisch as a great, independent grape variety, beyond opulence, beyond short-term effect, towards origin, structure, and time.

What seems self-evident today was radical at the outset. Moric has redefined Blaufränkisch: more precise, more reduced, more long-lived. Wines that do not aim to please but to endure. And that have shown that great red wines from Austria do not need to compete on an international stage but can confidently help shape it.

With the 2023 vintage, Velich has produced another master piece: 100 points for Blaufränkisch Alte Reben, 99 for Maissner, 98 for Schwemmer. Scores that recognise not only the vintage but also a development across decades.

In this masterclass for professionals, Roland Velich presents the current vintage in its full breadth. The tasting is complemented by three aged Blaufränkisch Alte Reben from various vintages to demonstrate what these wines are built for: time.

In addition, the 2024 vintage marks the next step in another project: Tokaj. The first releases have already attracted attention and open a further perspective on Velich’s understanding of origin.
