For 25 years, Roland Velich has pursued a clear vision: to establish Blaufränkisch as a great grape variety in its own right – moving beyond opulence and immediate appeal, with a focus on origin, structure and ageing potential.

What may seem self-evident today was radical at the time. Moric redefined Blaufränkisch – making it more precise, restrained and age-worthy. Wines that seek not to please, but to endure. And wines that have demonstrated that great Austrian reds can do more than hold their own internationally – they can confidently help shape the conversation.

With the 2023 vintage, Velich has achieved another remarkable success: 100 points for Blaufränkisch Alte Reben, 99 for Maissner and 98 for Schwemmer. Ratings that not only underline the exceptional quality of this vintage but also confirm a development spanning decades.

In this one-hour masterclass for wine professionals, Roland Velich presents the diversity of his current Blaufränkisch releases 2024, exploring the different origins, vineyards and individual characters of his wines.

The new 2025 vintage from Tokaj opens another perspective on Velich’s work. His commitment to Furmint and the historic wine landscapes of Pannonia demonstrates that his curiosity and understanding of terroir have long extended beyond Central Burgenland.
