Favourite wines of great connoisseurs with Sascha Speicher & Stephan Reinhardt
Alsace is one of the most beautiful wine landscapes in the world. Stephan Reinhardt and Sascha Speicher lead through Grand Cru wines, sites, and personalities of an often underestimated region.
Alsace is one of the most compelling wine regions in the world: marked by great varietal diversity, distinctive Grand Cru sites, traditional architecture, and a strong culinary culture. Nonetheless, the region remains difficult to grasp for many wine professionals, not least because its best wines are available in the German-speaking market only in selected places.
Stephan Reinhardt and Sascha Speicher have known the region for many years and present a personal selection of their favourite wines. The tasting places sites, styles, and producers in context and shows why Alsace deserves particular attention for great wines of origin.
Stephan Reinhardt first worked as a theatre scholar, researching and teaching at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. As a theatre and music critic for Süddeutsche Zeitung, he turned to wine in 2000 and has written exclusively on the subject ever since. His work has appeared in Welt am Sonntag, taz, and numerous magazines in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, including Der Feinschmecker, Falstaff, Fine, and GQ. In 2014, Robert M. Parker Jr. invited him to join The Wine Advocate, where he now covers the wines of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Alsace. He is also a wine columnist for Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. His books The Finest Wines of Germany and Wein spricht deutsch are important publications on wine from German-speaking regions.
Sascha Speicher is a wine journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Meiningers Sommelier, Meininger Verlag’s trade magazine for sommeliers and the restaurant sector. He has worked in wine journalism since 1998 and is regarded as one of the established voices in the German-speaking wine industry. His main areas of expertise include Champagne, France, Austria, and the international sommelier scene. He has also initiated formats such as the Sommelier Summit, Meininger’s Finest 100, 100 Prozent Champagne, and Sparkling Twenties, through which he has helped shape the German-speaking sommelier and sparkling wine scene.
