Bordeaux in motion
incl. lunch from 12:30 p.m.
Anyone who thinks everything in Bordeaux always stays the same is mistaken. Bordeaux is not static. Neal Martin shows estates that pursue new paths in the vineyard, in the cellar, and in their thinking, with Claire Lurton, Ludovic Fradin, Michel Théron, and Théophile Cordonnier.
Anyone who sees Bordeaux only as unchanging classics overlooks the dynamism of recent years. Many estates today work organically or biodynamically, rethink the visitor experience, place origin more precisely at the centre, or consciously depart from established routines.
In this tasting, Neal Martin presents wines and perspectives from producers who are moving Bordeaux from different positions: Claire Lurton of Château Haut-Bages Libéral, Ludovic Fradin of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Michel Théron of Clos du Jaugueyron, and Théophile Cordonnier of Château Anthonic. The tasting shows Bordeaux not as a break with tradition but as a region in motion.
Born in Britain, Neal Martin moved to Japan after completing his studies, where he initially worked as an English teacher. A later position with an importer sparked his interest in wine. He completed WSET Level 4, visited numerous wineries and launched wine-journal.com in 2003, which quickly reached 100,000 readers. In 2006, Robert Parker invited him to work as a critic for The Wine Advocate. In 2012, he published a book on Pomerol. Neal Martin left Robert Parker Wine Advocate in 2017. Since 2018, he has worked for Vinous, where he is responsible for Bordeaux, Burgundy, South Africa, Port, Tokaj and England.
